The Patriot girls got back in the win column Monday night (Jan. 22nd) with a huge, 51-49, upset win over Baltimore City power Western High School. JC had it toughest stetch of the season playing three of the top seven teams in the Baltimore area in four days, culminating with the victory over Western on Monday night. During that stretch, the Patriots had the lead in all three games and was able to hold on to it down the stretch against Western due to made free throws in the fouth quarter. Jordan Wakefield (18 points, 8 rebounds) hit 6-of-7 free throws in the 4th quarter. Savannah Simmons (13 points, 5 assists) connected on 4-of-7 from the line down the stretch. John Carroll hit six 3-pointers in the game, four of which came in the second quarter where Myah Savage drained two to help JC build an 18-point halftime lead. Western battled back in the third quarter to eventually take a one point lead in the fourth quarter. Simmons was relentless all night attacking the basket and, after Western took its lone lead of the game, Simmons knocked down 2 free throws which gave JC the lead for good. Wakefield then secured a huge defensive rebound inside of 1 minute and got fouled. Her subsequent free throws put JC up by four points. The Patriots are now 11-4 on the season with all four losses coming to higher ranked teams.
