With top two seed for the MIAA A Conference baseball tournament already in hand, the John Carroll baseball team has reserved some of its top pitching in the last couple of games to prepare for the post-season. The result has been a couple of conference losses this week, as the Pats fell to Archbishop Curley, 9-2, on May 1st and to Loyola, 5-2, on May 2nd. The team, however, did rebound to defeat visiting St. Mary’s, 5-2, on May 3rd. With the game tied at two in the bottom of the fifth, Tyler Blittersdorf triggered a 3-run rally with an RBI single. Ben Pika was the winning pitcher for JC, lasting 3.2 innings, allowing three hits and no runs while striking out two and walking none. Zack Reed recorded the last out in the seventh inning to earn the save. Ryan Archibald started the game for John Carroll and went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out four and walking one. The Patriots totaled nine hits in the game. Gavin Wingard was 3-for-3 and Blittersdorf had two hits.
