The John Carroll varsity baseball team, which has spent much of 2018 as the No. 1 team and the Baltimore area and is currently ranked No. 2, is ready to embark on post-season play in the MIAA A Conference as the Pats are the second seed in the double-elimination tournament. They will open on Monday, May 14th, against either Gilman or Calvert Hall, at home. John Carroll closed its regular season with an impressive 7-0 win over Mount St. Joseph. In his final tuneup for the playoffs, JC ace Nick Collier pitched four shutout innings to get the win. He allowed just two hits and one walk, while striking out seven. Ryan Ishak and Jack Colagiovanni came in and finished off the contest. Collier had an RBI and Ryan Archibald went 2-for-4. Prior to that the Patriots lost a wild, 16-13, decision to Archbishop Spalding, on a three-run walk-off home run by Spalding, on May 7th. JC out-hit Spalding, 19-11, on that day, but the pitching did not hold up for one of the rare times this season. Tyler Blittersdorf, Archibald, and Grant Astle each collected three hits to lead John Carroll. Nick Collier, Nico Santoto and Johnny Gallant had two hits each.
